Inside the 2nd Annual SergSupply x Rigwell Open House: Vans, Vibes & Voices
There’s something magnetic about these events — the ones that bring makers, dreamers, and tinkerers into the same dusty parking lot. You show up for the gear, but you stay for the people. This year’s 2nd Annual SergSupply x Rigwell Open House felt like more than just a vendor pop-up. It was a reunion, a showcase, and a celebration of the lifestyle we all chase: freedom on four wheels and a never-ending road.
The Roll-In – Coffee, Miles, and That Familiar Buzz
Like every great vanlife day, this one started early. I fired up the van, grabbed a cup of coffee, and hit the road. That quiet excitement of heading somewhere full of people who just “get it” — you can’t beat it. As I rolled into the lot, the scene was already alive: vans lined up, the smell of burritos in the air, and smiles everywhere.
Dmitriy – Purpose in the Build
My first stop was Dmitriy, a builder whose work speaks for itself. His van is stunning, but what stuck with me was his why. He builds not just for function or form, but for the feeling it gives people—freedom, calm, control.
We chatted about what keeps him going in the industry, his favorite places to escape (Alabama Hills, naturally), and the best meal he’s had on the road. I won’t brag… but it was one of mine. 😉
The tour of his van was packed with intentionality—clean lines, earthy tones, and just enough tech to feel modern without losing the soul.
Josh – Building Fast, Living Free
Next up was Josh, aka @roamingwithjosh, who also runs @electrixmoto. His brand-new 170 van build had jaws dropping — not just for how clean it looked, but because the entire thing came together in three days. Yes, three.
The build was a masterclass in efficiency:
L-track mounted to secure e-motos
Simple, reliable power setup
Rigwell open-face cabinets that gave it a rugged, minimalist vibe
Josh’s dual identity—van lifer and electric moto enthusiast — was all over the design. It’s a reminder that your van can and should reflect how you live.
Brent from VanSpeed – A Legacy in the Making
Meeting Brent from VanSpeed and The VanMart was like sitting down with the OGs. He’s been in this game a while, and his insight showed. We talked about his journey — how he got started, what drives him, and why his team keeps pushing the limits of what a van can be.
He walked me through one of their custom Ford Transit builds, loaded with signature VanSpeed touches. What I appreciated most was his take on balancing style and utility — these builds are meant to be used, not just admired.
Eric – A Mix That Works
Eric’s 170 build was a perfect example of mixing and matching to make something uniquely yours. His interior featured:
SergSupply floors, ceiling, walls, garage boxes, and galley
Components from VanWife and FVCO
A setup that’s functional, cozy, and road-ready
What stood out most wasn’t the gear—it was why he built the van. For Eric, it’s about flexibility, family, and slowing down. We swapped stories about road meals, and his go-to dish? Something hearty and simple, best enjoyed with a view.
Why These Gatherings Matter
As the day wound down, what stuck with me wasn’t a product or a promo. It was the people. These events remind me that vanlife isn’t just about gear — it’s about connection. It’s the stories, the hacks, shared over fresh BBQ, the spark that comes from seeing someone else’s rig and thinking, Yeah, I could do that.
A massive thanks to SergSupply, Rigwell, Electrix Moto, VanSpeed, and everyone else who brought their passion to the lot. And to the community — thank you for showing up. You make the road feel like home.
See you at the next one.
